How to Make Your Own Game Character From a Photo

Choose a Clear Photo for Your Character
Any PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF up to 2 MB works: use your face as a game character, use a selfie, a pet or a toy. The photo matters more than the tool, so pick with three things in mind:
- One clear subject: a single face or object, not a crowded group shot.
- Contrast with the background: a dark subject on a light wall is far easier to cut out cleanly than a brown dog on a brown sofa.
- Front-facing and well lit: the character is small on screen, so a bright, front-facing subject stays recognizable at game size.
Cut Out the Subject With the Pen Tool
After you upload the photo, open the pen tool. It works like the pen in a photo editor: click to place anchor points around your subject until you have traced its outline, then click the first point again (or double-click) to close the path. Everything outside the path disappears, so only your subject remains, background gone.
